I often get asked for recommendations of essential oil use to help with a home practice. No matter what the intention is for your practice, the oils mentioned below will help to deepen your experience on your mat. Using a diffuser during one of our online classes is a great way to enhance your ambiance at home and bring the aromatic experience into your practice.

Power and Flow Classes: Choose oils like Peppermint, Wild Orange, and Cinnamon to help get the energy moving and to add some power to your flow. These oils can also help us to feel encouraged and uplifted, so reach for them when you are feeling overwhelmed, sad or disconnected.

Slow Flow, Deep Stretch, and Relax & Restore: For classes that move along more slowly, choose oils like Patchouli, Lavender and Copiaba to help you find a calm focus to explore postures while feeling grounded and steady. These oils help us connect with how we are feeling in the emotional and physical body, so that we can move new breath and fresh energy to areas that need it.

Meditation: Now is a great time to jump into a meditation practice! Find a cozy corner in your home where you can sit and breathe a bit, even for just five minutes. Mediation helps us to calm our nervous system and allows us a break from the chatter in our heads. Oils like Frankincense, Sandalwood and Melissa can help us connect into our true peaceful nature, moving away from the anxious, busy or even fearful emotions we may be experiencing right now.

Anytime you are using essential oils, check the bottles for proper and safe usage. If using oils topically, dilute as directed and be mindful if using oils that could irritate your skin during a hot, sweaty flow.
